Islamabad, The Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has emphasized the government’s commitment to prioritizing the completion of the Main Line One (ML-1) project of Pakistan Railways. During a meeting in Islamabad, he highlighted the project’s significance as a key component of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), expected to transform the country’s transport sector.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Prime Minister Kakar stressed the importance of environmental considerations during the project’s construction and the need for transparency. The meeting discussed the ML-1 project’s potential to create new job opportunities, reduce transportation costs, and enhance the efficiency of travel.
The ML-1 project, upon completion, is set to improve Pakistan’s connectivity with its economic centers and ports, serving as a transit route for other regional countries under CPEC. The project, scheduled to begin next year, will be executed in two phases. The first phase involves laying a 930-kilometer railway line from Karachi to Multan, including upgrades to infrastructure affected by the 2022 floods. The second phase will see the construction of a 796-kilometer section from Multan to Peshawar. The project is expected to greatly benefit Pakistan’s railways, offering opportunities for foreign investment and reforms to maximize its capacity.
