Caretaker IT Minister Emphasizes Importance of Broadband Fiber Connectivity for Economic Growth

Islamabad, Dr. Umar Saif, Caretaker Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, presided over a meeting focusing on the advancement of fiberization and the Right of Way Policy in Pakistan. The meeting saw the participation of senior officers from the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication (MoITT) and representatives from various telecom companies.

According to Press Information Department (PID), Dr. Umar Saif highlighted the crucial role of quality telecom services in national development. He stated that a 10% increase in mobile broadband adoption could lead to a 0.5 – 0.8 percent rise in the country’s GDP. Recognizing this potential, he urged for incentivizing broadband fiber connectivity across Pakistan.

Dr. Saif mentioned the recent standardization of right-of-way policies for laying fiber for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and telecom players. He called upon the IT industry to set ambitious targets for fiberization in the country, assuring that the Ministry of IT & Telecom will provide full support to the telecom industry in these endeavors.

This meeting underlines the government’s commitment to enhancing Pakistan’s digital infrastructure as a means to stimulate economic growth and development.
