Caretaker FM Jalil Abbas Jilani Begins Week-Long Visit to Uganda for Summits


Kampala, Caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani of Pakistan embarks on a week-long visit to Kampala, Uganda today. He will participate in two significant international gatherings: the 19th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the Third South Summit.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, at the NAM Summit, Foreign Minister Jilani is set to articulate Pakistan’s stance on various endemic and contemporary global challenges, focusing on international peace, security, and development. He will emphasize the importance of bolstering multilateralism and revitalizing NAM’s role in upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.



Furthermore, during the South Summit, the Foreign Minister will present Pakistan’s vision for increased cooperation and solidarity among the countries of the Global South. This vision aims to collectively address common challenges and forge a unified agenda for prosperity in the South.



Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, a spokesperson for the Foreign Office, stated that Pakistan, as a longstanding member of NAM, has played a significant role in shaping the agenda of the movement. The country remains dedicated to enhancing NAM’s effectiveness in addressing regional and global issues related to peace and security.



Additionally, the spokesperson highlighted Pakistan’s active membership in the Group of 77 and China, emphasizing its commitment to cooperation within the Global South. This collaboration focuses on sustainable development, poverty eradication, and tackling climate change.



During his stay in Uganda, Foreign Minister Jilani is also expected to engage in bilateral meetings with heads of delegations from various countries attending the Summits. These meetings are anticipated to foster diplomatic relations and discuss mutual interests and concerns.
