Karachi, In a recent development, the Custodian Chief Minister of Sindh, Justice (Retd) Maqbool Baqir, highlighted critical issues regarding transportation and agriculture in the province. The Chief Minister expressed concerns over the stalled release of 30 buses imported from China and the challenges faced by farmers in the region.
According to Chief Minister Sindh, Justice (Rtd) Maqbool Baqir has pointed out operational hurdles in the release of 30 government buses at Karachi port. The buses, which were imported from China, have been delayed due to a lack of customs clearance. Despite the Sindh government releasing 1000 million rupees for this purpose on December 1, 2023, the transfer of these funds was halted from December 6, 2023, owing to procedural issues with the Accountant General (AG) of Sindh. The Chief Minister emphasized that the AG’s refusal to accept financial verification is causing these delays, and if the buses get damaged as a result, the AG will be held responsible. He has directed the finance secretary to discuss the matter with the federal secretary of finance and warned that the Sindh government will take its own course if the problem is not resolved in the next two days.
In a separate statement issued from the Chief Minister’s House on the occasion of National Farmers’ Day, Justice (Rtd) Maqbool Baqir acknowledged the significant contribution of farmers to the nation’s food supply. He saluted the hard work of farmers, who labor in extreme conditions to fulfill the country’s needs. The Chief Minister pointed out that while the economic development of the people is reaching new heights due to the farmers’ efforts, the farmers and settlers themselves often lag in this journey of progress. He emphasized the importance of developing the agricultural sector for the stability and prosperity of the country. To address the challenges faced by farmers and settlers, the Chief Minister has mobilized the public cell of the Chief Minister of Sindh for complaint resolution and ordered concerned deputy commissioners to promptly solve the problems of farmers and settlers.
These statements underscore the current administration’s focus on addressing key issues in transportation and agriculture, sectors vital to the economy and well-being of Sindh’s populace.
