Canadian High Commissioner Discusses Bilateral Ties with Chairman Senate

Islamabad, The Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Leslie Scanlon, met with the Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani, at the Parliament House in Islamabad. The dialogue revolved around enhancing bilateral relationships, strengthening economic and social ties, and addressing mutual concerns, including the ongoing situation in the Middle East.

According to a news release by Senate of Pakistan, during the discussion, Chairman Sanjrani articulated Pakistan’s profound regard for its relationship with Canada and its dedication to nurturing a long-lasting, multifaceted relationship. He underlined the need to amplify trade and foster a closer connection between the business sectors of both countries. Bilateral cooperation in public, commercial, and parliamentary domains was emphasized as crucial for enhancing the ties between Pakistan and Canada.

Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani also drew attention to the abundant investment prospects in Pakistan, especially in Balochistan. Highlighting the job opportunities stemming from the Canadian company Barrick Gold’s investment in Chagai, he welcomed further Canadian enterprises to invest, particularly given Balochistan’s rich mineral resources.

Sanjrani conveyed his heartfelt wishes to the Canadian leadership and its citizens, emphasizing justice and equality as key factors for global peace. He urged the international community, including developed nations, to act decisively in enforcing United Nations resolutions, particularly concerning the ongoing challenges in Gaza, West Bank, and Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The significance of a UN-endorsed solution for the Kashmir issue and the importance of protecting human rights were also stressed.

High Commissioner Scanlon expressed her agreement on these matters, emphasizing the immediate need to address the Palestinian situation. She recognized Pakistan’s sacrifices in counter-terrorism efforts and voiced her support for investment initiatives in Pakistan. Secretary Senate, Mohammad Qasim Samad Khan, was also in attendance.
