Islamabad, The Cabinet Committee on Energy has given the green light for the commencement of construction on an eighty-kilometer segment of the Pak-Iran Gas Pipeline within Pakistan. The decision was made during a recent meeting in Islamabad, signaling a significant step forward in the bilateral energy project between Pakistan and Iran.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the approval follows recommendations from the Ministerial Oversight Committee for the Pak-Iran Project, established by the Prime Minister in September of the previous year. This committee had advocated for initiating work on the pipeline’s Pakistani segment as a first phase, highlighting the project’s strategic importance for enhancing the nation’s energy security and supporting local industry through increased gas supplies.
The project, to be executed by Inter State Gas Systems Pvt Ltd., will leverage funds from the Gas Infrastructure Development Cess. It aims not only to bolster Pakistan’s energy security but also to boost the confidence of the local industry by ensuring a more reliable supply of gas. Furthermore, the initiative is expected to stimulate economic activity in Balochistan, contributing significantly to the overall economic progress of the country by creating jobs, facilitating industrial growth, and promoting regional development.
