Cabinet Committee Advances Categorization of State-Owned Enterprises in Islamabad

Islamabad: Today, the Cabinet Committee on State-Owned Enterprises, led by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, convened to review and categorize various state-owned enterprises based on their strategic importance and role within the government’s broader economic framework. This key meeting focused on classifying these entities as strategic, essential, or otherwise, to streamline their management and enhance their operational efficiency.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the committee approved the categorization summaries presented by the Power Division, the Ministry of Industries and Production, and the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development. Each ministry’s presentation detailed the significance and future strategy for the state-owned enterprises under their jurisdiction, aligning them with the government’s priorities for economic stabilization and growth.

However, the agenda pertaining to the categorization of enterprises under the Petroleum Division was deferred. The committee concluded that further deliberations were necessary to assess the strategic value and implications of the proposed classifications for this sector.

The decisions made in this session are part of ongoing efforts to reform and optimize the performance of state-owned enterprises across various sectors, ensuring that they contribute effectively to Pakistan’s economic landscape.
