Islamabad: Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has directed the Civil Aviation Authority to accelerate the development of air cargo facilities and form business partnerships to establish Gwadar as a hub for international airlines. The move aims to attract airlines currently using Oman and Dubai for technical landings by promoting Gwadar as a cost-effective alternative.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during a high-level meeting in Islamabad, the Minister highlighted the potential for Gwadar International Airport to serve as a strategic location for long-haul flights from regions such as South Africa and Australia. He proposed offering attractive rates for at least five years to incentivize technical landings, which are crucial to the strategy.
