British High Commissioner Visits President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir in Mirpur


Mirpur, The British High Commissioner, Miss Jane Marriott, along with a high-level delegation from the British High Commission, visited the native residence of the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, in Chichiyan Mirpur. This visit marks the first time a British High Commissioner in Pakistan has visited the President’s ancestral home in Azad Kashmir.



According to President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the delegation accompanying Marriott included Richard Lindsay, Head of Pakistan and Afghanistan Security Operations Department in the British Foreign Ministry; Sam Sherman, Head of Regional Security Team of the British High Commission; Albert David, Head of Council of British High Commission; Russ Mack, Second Secretary of British High Commission; Partland, Head of Communication of the British High Commission; Miss Sinihalala, Design and Digital Officer of the British High Commission; and Akash Ashraf and Adela Khan, Political Advisor of the British High Commission.



During the visit, President Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry and British High Commissioner Marriott engaged in a one-on-one meeting, discussing various topics. They deliberated on the ongoing projects of the British government in Azad Kashmir, the challenges faced by overseas Kashmiris living in the UK, investment by the British government in Azad Kashmir, and the impacts of climate change on the region. They also developed a plan of action to address these issues.



Additionally, President Chaudhry and High Commissioner Marriott met with various delegations of Kashmiris living in the UK, listening to the problems faced by the diaspora. They also discussed other matters of mutual interest.



This historic visit underscores the importance of the relationship between the UK and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in terms of bilateral cooperation, investment, and addressing the concerns of the Kashmiri diaspora in the UK.
