British High Commission Development Director Discusses Climate Finance with Pakistan’s Planning Minister

Islamabad, Jo Moir, Director Development at the British High Commission Islamabad, led a two-member delegation to meet with Muhammad Sami Saeed, Caretaker Minister for Planning Development & Special Initiatives. The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation between the UK and Pakistan, particularly in the climate sector.

According to Press Information Department (PID), the discussion included an exchange of views on Pakistan’s current development portfolio and a commitment to further strengthen this partnership in the future. The Planning Minister acknowledged the British High Commission’s long-standing assistance, emphasizing its significant role in Pakistan’s socioeconomic development, especially in ongoing climate-related projects.

The Planning Ministry presented its National Climate Finance Strategy (NCFS), designed to identify sectoral priorities and enhance climate finance. Additionally, the newly established Sustainable Finance Bureau (SFB) was highlighted as a key initiative to revolutionize climate finance in Pakistan. These measures are crucial as Pakistan faces various weather and climate-related challenges, including floods, landslides, droughts, and heatwaves.

Ms. Moir commended the Planning Ministry’s efforts in establishing the NCFS and a Climate Responsive Public Investment Framework. She reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting Pakistan in its endeavors towards climate resilience and sustainable development. The UK’s active involvement in addressing climate challenges faced by Pakistan was also underscored during the meeting.

This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to tackling climate change and advancing sustainable development goals in Pakistan.
