British Council and Pakistan’s Youth Programme Partner to Boost Youth Skills and Digital Literacy

Karachi, The British Council and the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) have announced a reinforced partnership aimed at empowering Pakistani youth and advancing digitalization across the country. This collaboration, first established in 2013, has now evolved to include the development of high-tech skills centers and the promotion of digital literacy, underscoring a mutual commitment to equip young Pakistanis with the skills necessary for the digital age.

According to Press Information Department, the partnership will focus on establishing centers of excellence in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to provide youth with access to advanced digital skills training. The Chairman of PMYP unveiled plans to professionalize GYM clubs, training members for future careers in fields related to climate change, reflecting an innovative approach to upskilling the youth in critical areas of need.

In an effort to enhance youth participation and representation, PMYP announced the formation of a revamped National Youth Council, designed to ensure gender equality and the inclusion of marginalized groups. This initiative will involve a transparent and inclusive selection process, with development partners playing a role in the council’s formation.

The PMYP also revealed plans to revive the Higher Education Commission’s internship and apprenticeship programs and to develop a comprehensive national youth policy with a strong focus on digitalization. The British Council expressed its full support for these initiatives, including the integration of their digital portal with the PMYP portal, to streamline access to resources and training for young people.

Furthermore, the British Council proposed collaborative efforts on additional initiatives, such as the Women in Leadership program and digital literacy programs aimed at promoting online safeguarding. A policy dialogue designed to train 10,000 young people was also discussed, highlighting the importance of government engagement for effective policy implementation.

This partnership between the British Council and PMYP represents a significant step forward in fostering youth potential and digital innovation in Pakistan, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their ongoing collaboration to benefit the nation’s youth.
