Karachi, At a function organized in Bradford, United Kingdom, speakers have vocally criticized the Indian Supreme Court’s recent decision concerning the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. The assembly highlighted the issue as an international dispute, emphasizing that it extends beyond India’s internal affairs and warrants global attention.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the speakers at the Bradford event asserted that the Indian Supreme Court’s ruling, perceived as biased and one-sided, does not alter the reality of India’s occupation of the internationally recognized disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir. They argued that the Modi government and the Supreme Court of India lack the authority to modify the internationally recognized disputed status of the region.
The function’s attendees stressed that actions taken unilaterally by the Modi government since August 5, 2019, contravene United Nations Security Council resolutions. They maintained that a just resolution to the Kashmir dispute lies in the implementation of these resolutions. The speakers called for the United Nations to take immediate and decisive steps towards the peaceful settlement of this prolonged dispute and to uphold the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.
The speakers at the event expressed solidarity with the Kashmiri people, affirming their determination to persist in their struggle for freedom until it reaches its logical conclusion. This sentiment resonates with the long-standing aspirations of many in the Kashmiri community for autonomy and recognition of their rights.
Notable figures such as Hurriyat leader Abdul Hameed Lone, Ishtiaq Ahmed, Jamal Ali, Councillor Raja Sakhawat, Harry Boota, Wajid, and other councilors addressed the gathering, adding weight to the call for international intervention and support for the Kashmir cause.
The event in Bradford reflects the ongoing international concern over the Kashmir issue and the growing calls for a resolution in line with international norms and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
