Srinagar: The bodies of a teenage boy and a man were recovered from the Jhelum River in separate incidents in Kashmir on Monday, highlighting the dangers of the region’s waterways.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the body of a teenage boy, who drowned in the Jhelum River at Halmulla village of Sangam in Bijbehara, was retrieved by local rescuers on Monday morning. The boy, identified as Muhammad Shabir, son of Noor Mohammad, a resident of Budhan Reasi, had drowned on Sunday afternoon. A police official confirmed that the body was handed over to the family for last rites.
In a separate incident, the body of a man was recovered from the Jhelum River near Pantha Chookh area of Srinagar. The man was identified as Tariq Ahmad of Pampore. His body has been sent to the hospital for medico-legal formalities. Police have taken cognizance of the incidents and are investigating further.
