Black Day Observance Called in Jammu and Kashmir on India’s Republic Day

Srinagar, In a significant display of dissent, posters in various areas of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir are urging people to observe India’s Republic Day on January 26 as a Black Day.

According to Kashmir Media Service, India’s Republic Day commemorates the implementation of its Constitution on January 26, 1950, which established India as a secular nation. However, the posters claim that this is contradicted by the Hindutva ideology of the current BJP government under Narendra Modi, which is accused of striving to transform India into a Hindu state.

The posters, which support the APHC’s call to mark the day as Black Day, have been put up by different Hurriyat groups across Srinagar and other areas. They convey a strong message of rejection of India’s celebrations in the region, terming them a “cruel joke” and a denial of the people’s rejection of India’s illegal occupation.

Residents are being encouraged to hoist black flags on their houses, shops, and public structures on Republic Day to signify their protest and to communicate to the world that for the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir, January 26 is not a day of celebration but a day of mourning and resistance.

In addition to these visual protests, the posters, which are also circulating on social media, call for special prayers to be held in memory of Kashmiri martyrs on the anniversaries of the massacres.
