Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Agha Ruhullah Mehdi, a senior National Conference leader and member of the Indian Parliament, has blamed the BJP-led Indian government’s policies for the worsening security situation in the region.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Ruhullah Mehdi expressed deep concern over a recent attack on non-Kashmiris in Mazhama, Budgam, in a post on X. He questioned the effectiveness of the Indian forces operating under the Modi administration, which directly controls the territory. Mehdi stated, “The BJP regime, responsible for security in [IIOJK], must be held accountable for these recurring failures.” He also questioned the possible link between the surge in attacks and the recent elections in the territory, asking, “What explains the sudden increase in these incidents immediately following the elections?”
Meanwhile, Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen, Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Front, in a statement in Srinagar, demanded the restoration of statehood to IIOJK. He criticized the Union Territory Foundation Day celebration by New Delhi-appointed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, asserting it contradicts the commitments made by Indian Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the restoration of statehood to IIOJK. Yaseen added that the UT Foundation Day celebration has created doubts in the hearts and minds of the people over the fulfillment of the commitment to statehood restoration.
