RAJNANDGAON, Following the death of two Maoists, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker was fatally shot by unidentified assailants in the Chhattisgarh state of India.
According to a news release by Kashmir Media Service, the deceased, Birjhu Taram, a BJP worker, was targeted in the Mohla Manpur area. “Birjhu Taram was killed by unknown gunmen in the Mohla Manpur Ambagarh Chowki district, under the jurisdiction of the Aundhi police station. Since last night, proceedings have been ongoing regarding the incident,” stated IG Bhagat to the media.
Earlier in the day, Indian forces neutralized two militants from a Maoist independence group in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district, as reported by a senior police official. The attack on the BJP worker is suspected to be a retaliatory act.
The upcoming assembly election in Chhattisgarh, with the first phase covering 90 seats, is slated for November 7. The subsequent phase, accounting for the remaining 70 seats, is scheduled for November 17.
