BJP Women Activists in Jammu Protest Over Election Candidate Discrimination

Jammu: In a significant display of dissent, women activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) protested in front of the party’s office in Jammu, voicing their concerns over perceived discrimination in the distribution of election tickets. The protest centered on the party’s decision to field only one woman candidate out of a total of 42 for the upcoming assembly elections in the region, which is currently under occupation.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the demonstration attracted participants from several areas within the Jammu region, including Dudo Basantgarh, Doda, and Ram Nagar. The protestors, raising slogans against the party leadership, expressed their dissatisfaction with the selection of “parachute” candidates, referring to individuals who are seen as outsiders imposed by higher-ups without considering local dynamics.

The women involved in the protest criticized the BJP’s purported commitment to women’s issues, pointing out the contradiction in their own experiences with the party’s internal candidate selection processes. This event underscores a growing unrest among grassroots party members, particularly women, who demand greater representation and are challenging the party’s decision-making processes.

The protesters made it clear that their actions were more than expressions of frustration; they were asserting their rights and calling for an end to the gender discrimination within the party structures.
