BJP running away from elections in IIOJK because of defeat fear: Omar

Srinagar, June 14, 2023 (PPI-OT): National Conference leader Omar Abdullah on Wednesday termed it unfortunate that the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir were being ruled by those had come to power without elections adding that the BJP was running away from the elections just because of fear of defeat. Talking to reporters in Magam in Badgam, Omar Abdullah challenged the BJP to demonstrate courage to hold assembly elections alongside Indian elections in the territory.

He termed it strange that the BJP, which claims Jammu and Kashmir as its integral part, is going to hold Lok Sabha elections but not Kashmir’s assembly elections. Omar said the BJP could make preparations for urban local body or Panchayat elections, but they could not do so for assembly elections, saying individuals who had become “uncrowned kings” would no longer have their addresses once assembly elections are held.

“They are scared to face elections, had they not, elections would have been held. These people have come to power without elections and that is unfortunate for us that they are ruling us, let the elections happen then I will see what they can do”, he said. Responding to a question on films that are being said to be made to defame Islam, Omar noted that “we are not so weak that one or two films can weaken us or our religion.
