BJP Revises School Curriculum to Promote Hindu Nationalist Agenda Across India

New Delhi: The BJP-led state governments in India are making significant changes to the school curriculum to promote the party’s Hindu nationalist agenda.

According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, these revisions involve the removal of chapters on notable Indian reformers while adding content about Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) founder K.H. Hedgewar. In states like Gujarat and Uttarakhand, religious texts such as the Bhagavad Gita and Vedic scriptures are now part of the school curriculum, focusing on a Hindu-centric education.

Educationists and experts have expressed concerns over these changes, suggesting that they are politically driven and aim to reshape Indian history through a communal perspective. The revisions are noted to downplay the contributions of historical figures like the Mughals, who have traditionally been recognized for their influence on Indian architecture, culture, and heritage. Instead, these figures are being depicted as invaders, challenging the diverse legacy of India.

Minority-run schools, particularly those managed by Christian and Muslim communities, are experiencing increased scrutiny and are facing allegations of forced conversions. Meanwhile, schools affiliated with the RSS are promoting Hindu practices, which some observers say contributes to a polarized educational environment.

In addition, scientific subjects are undergoing controversial modifications. Darwin’s theory of evolution and key concepts like electromagnetism are being replaced with teachings of Vedic science and Vedic mathematics, highlighting Hindu mythological ideas over established scientific knowledge.

Educationists argue that these changes are part of a larger strategy by the BJP to align India’s education system with Hindutva narratives and values. The alterations are seen as an effort not only to promote Hindu nationalist ideals but also to marginalize Muslim cultural identity, especially in regions such as Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Experts warn that by reshaping educational content to fit its political agenda, the BJP aims to instill these Hindu nationalist ideals in the youth, ensuring long-term ideological alignment with its policies and securing political dominance.
