BJP pushing India to another division on religious lines, existence of J and K at stake: Mehbooba

Jammu, March 21, 2022 (PPI-OT): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti has questioned the Indian govt’s claims of development and peace in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) after Narendra Modi led Indian government’s unilateral and illegal decision to revoke Article 370 on August 5, 2019, saying what change BJP has brought since its direct rule in the territory except rendering locals jobless and snatching business from them.

Mehbooba Mufti was addressing a party meeting in R S Pura town in Jammu. The PDP chief said that following the scrapping of IIOJK’s special status the youth have been pushed into hopelessness as they have to now compete with outsiders for jobs in the territory.

She said that the authorities withdrew the posts advertised prior to August 5, 2019 to allow the outsiders from all over India to apply for these positions. “If the Chief Ministers of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh [Indian states] can assert that the State jobs are meant for locals only, why not jobs here should be exclusively for J and K youth?”

She asked and said that those who raise their voice for people are dubbed anti-nationals. “Muslims are declared as Pakistanis, Hindus as anti-nationals and Sikhs as Khalistanis by these fascist forces,” she added. Mehbooba Mufti further said that BJP was pushing India towards another division on religious lines, adding the existence of Jammu and Kashmir, where the situation is much worse, was in danger under the saffron party’s rule.

She maintained the BJP will not be successful in Kashmir where they have no takers except a handful of their paid agents holding the party flag, but in Jammu, which has been home to all religions and accepted everyone irrespective of faith, responsibility lies on its people to stand up and take on communal forces. Mehbooba maintained the PDP cannot take this fight to a logical end alone and the youths will have to come forward to play a decisive role.
