Lucknow: A lawmaker from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has stirred controversy in Uttar Pradesh by asserting that chanting Hindutva slogans is necessary for living in India, a statement that has drawn criticism from political opponents and heightened concerns about religious intolerance in the region.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh made these remarks during a Ram Katha event in Tiloi. In a video widely circulated on social media, Singh is seen declaring from the stage that anyone wishing to reside in Hindustan must say “Radhe Radhe,” a phrase that was echoed by supporters and attendees present at the event.
The comments have been condemned by a senior leader from the Samajwadi Party, who accused the BJP of attempting to disturb communal peace and harmony. The leader called for Singh to be held accountable and removed from his position for making such provocative statements.
Singh’s remarks have amplified concerns regarding the marginalization of minorities and the increasing imposition of Hindutva ideologies under the current BJP-led government. Observers note the growing climate of religious intolerance and its implications for communal relations across India.
