BJP Ladakh councillors barred from attending India’s R-Day function, call it ‘colonial era’ attitude

Leh, January 27, 2022 (PPI-OT): In total disrespect to own party members in Ladakh region of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Modi-led ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in India denied permission to its local cadres to the Republic Day function in the Ladakh region. The councillors termed the denial “a colonial era” act.

According to Kashmir Media Service, this angered the Councillors of Ladakh who while expressing serious resentment and anger said despite being part of the ruling BJP, they were not allowed to enter the Republic Day main function held at Polo Ground, Leh.

Talking to reporters in Leh, the Councillors who identified themselves as part of the BJP announced that they would observe the forthcoming 15th August separately. “This move is aimed to damage the Council. We strongly condemn this act,” the angry Councillors said.

Morup Dorjay, one of the Councillors, part of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who was denied permission said that the highest institution in the region is the Hill Council.

“We had received the invitation cards for the function. We had come together in an official vehicle. All of us were denied permission, we were made to stand there,” he said. Later, he said police and other officials approached them and asked them to enter the venue but “all of us anonymously rejected their request since all of us are public representatives.” “It’s a bureaucratic rule and seems like a colonial era,” he said.
