Srinagar, August 30, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader in the Indian state of Jharkhand, Seema Patra, abused and tortured her domestic help. Seema Patra had made Sunita, a tribal woman employed as maid at her home, to clean toilet with her tongue.
Seema Patra’s son, Ayushman, tried to shield the maid and he had informed his friend, Vivek Baske, about the incidents at home. Sunita finally spoke about her ordeal to Vivek and was rescued with his help.
The police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under the relevant Section of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, at the Argoda police station in Ranchi.
Seema Patra, wife of former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Maheshwar Patra, has been accused of torturing Sunita over the past 8 years. Sunita had multiple wounds throughout her body. She has alleged that Seema Patra used to burn her with hot objects. As per media reports, Seema Patra has been booked for torturing the maid while the party has suspended her. Meanwhile, Congress has demanded strict action against the BJP leader.
The Indian National Commission for Women (NCW) has also taken cognizance of reports of Seema Patra harassing her domestic help. In a statement, NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma said the panel has written to Director General of Police, Jharkhand, to arrest the accused if the allegations levelled are found to be true.
“The Commission has also written for a fair and time-bound investigation in the matter,” Rekha Sharma said. She added, “The Commission has sought best medical treatment for the victim and ensure her safe rehabilitation. Action taken in the matter must be apprised to the Commission within seven days.”
