Dehradun: The BJP-led government in Uttarakhand has renamed 17 locations across the state that previously bore names with Muslim connotations, according to Kashmir Media Service. The move has been described as part of an ongoing effort to reshape the cultural landscape in the region.
The renaming initiative affects locations in multiple districts, with ten in Haridwar, four in Dehradun, two in Nainital, and one in Udham Singh Nagar undergoing changes.
In Haridwar district, Aurangzebpur has been renamed Shivaji Nagar, Ghaziwali is now Arya Nagar, Khanpur has become Shri Krishnapur, and Khanpur Kursali is renamed Ambedkar Nagar.
In Dehradun, Miyawala has been changed to Ramjiwala, while Chandpur Khurd will now be known as Prithviraj Nagar. In Nainital, Nawabi Road has been renamed Atal Road, and Panchukki Marg will now be called Guru Golwalkar Marg after the second chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
The Kashmir Media Service reported on these changes, noting the broader context of similar renaming efforts across India.
