Jammu: National Conference (NC) Additional General Secretary and former Minister, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, has urged the immediate restoration of full statehood to Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, accusing the BJP-led government of undermining democratic principles and fundamental rights in the region.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Sadhotra, while addressing a public meeting in Ramnagar, Jammu, criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for not fulfilling its promises to restore statehood, as previously committed before the Indian Supreme Court. He emphasized that the BJP’s reluctance to act reveals an undemocratic stance and a disregard for federalism, and he highlighted that the delay in statehood restoration is preventing the transfer of power to the people, which he described as a cornerstone of democracy.
Sadhotra urged the BJP to engage with the people of Jammu and Kashmir to reclaim their lost dignity and democratic rights, rather than following an agenda he described as authoritarian. The meeting saw significant participation from locals, who supported the demand for the swift restoration of statehood to ensure peace, stability, and progress in the region.
