BISP Expands Services to Enhance Social Welfare in Pakistan

Islamabad: Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, highlighted the pivotal role of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) as Pakistan’s foremost social safety initiative for the poor, underscoring new measures to enhance its accessibility and effectiveness.

According to Press Information Department, during a briefing at the BISP headquarters with Senator Rubina Khalid, Governor Kundi praised the introduction of a new banking model to ensure transparent fund disbursement to deserving women, as initiated by President Asif Ali Zardari. This model minimizes human interference, allowing direct transfers into women’s bank accounts established under the BISP Savings Scheme.

Further innovations include the deployment of mobile registration vans to register women in remote areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the establishment of BISP offices at the Union Council level to improve service delivery. Senator Khalid also detailed a skill development program aimed at providing technical training to women and their families, which not only aims to elevate their living standards but also prepares them for potential employment opportunities domestically and abroad.

Governor Kundi expressed strong support for these initiatives, noting their potential to significantly impact poverty alleviation and promote economic independence among Pakistan’s most vulnerable populations.
