BISP Chairperson and Sindh Health Minister Collaborate to Enhance Nutritional Programs

Karachi: In a significant meeting held on August 21, 2024, Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) Chairperson Senator Rubina Khalid met with Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho to discuss ongoing health initiatives aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable populations in Sindh. The focus of their discussion was the expansion and enhancement of nutritional support programs for Pregnant and Lactating Women (PLW) and children under two.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting highlighted the Benazir Nashonuma program, a BISP initiative designed to combat malnutrition and stunting in children and support maternal health in low-income families across Sindh. This program is integrated into local health facilities and includes mobile units to widen its reach.

Dr. Pechuho praised the BISP’s efforts and suggested extending the program to Basic Health Units in collaboration with PPHI and other health organizations to amplify its impact. She offered access to Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) data to refine the targeting and effectiveness of interventions and pledged her support to further enhance the program’s reach and efficacy.

This collaboration between BISP and the Sindh Health Ministry aims to leverage local and regional resources to provide critical nutritional support and healthcare services to some of the province’s most at-risk populations.
