Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Chairs Water Distribution Agreement Meeting, Reviews Monsoon Impact

Quetta: Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party, presided over a significant video-linked meeting to finalize the position of Sindh and Balochistan on water distribution across the country. The meeting, which resulted in the signing of the Ursa agreement under Zardari’s guidance, aligns both provinces on water management strategies, particularly in response to monsoon impacts.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, the meeting saw participation from Mir Muhammad Sadiq Imrani, Provincial Irrigation Minister from Quetta, and Jam Khan Shoro, Sindh Provincial Irrigation Minister from Karachi. Both ministers briefed Chairman Zardari on the performance of their respective departments and the proactive measures taken to mitigate flood damage during the monsoon season.

During the session, Zardari inquired about the specific damages caused by monsoon rains to canal embankments and the subsequent actions taken. Minister Imrani highlighted that preemptive bans and the establishment of responsive camps equipped with necessary resources have significantly reduced potential losses. He detailed that since August 3, swift actions by the Irrigation Department have successfully repaired 26 canal breaches, preventing widespread complaints and ensuring that all major dams, including Hub Dam and Subakzai Dam, remain nearly full.

This collaboration between Sindh and Balochistan under the Ursa formula marks a proactive step towards synchronized water management and disaster preparedness in both provinces.
