Islamabad, The Bijbehara carnage has been underscored as one of the most egregious acts committed by Indian troops in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
According to a news release by Kashmir Media Service, a report unveiled today details the tragic events of October 22, 1993, in the Bijbehara region of Islamabad district. On that fateful day, over 50 innocent Kashmiri lives were lost as Indian Border Security Force personnel fired upon peaceful protesters. The demonstrators had gathered to voice their opposition to the Indian military’s blockade of Srinagar’s revered Hazratbal shrine.
Three decades have passed since the event, yet the grieving families of the Bijbehara victims continue to yearn for justice. The grim episode remains vivid in the collective memory of the Kashmiri people. The IIOJK’s history is marred by multiple incidents akin to the Bijbehara tragedy, the report notes.
Indian forces have reportedly orchestrated more than 25 massacres in the occupied region, leading to the tragic loss of over 96,246 innocent Kashmiris from January 1989 to the present. Empowered by stringent laws, the troops operate with little oversight. The Modi administration is alleged to envision and orchestrate Bijbehara-like incidents to shift the IIOJK’s Muslim-majority demographic and to instill fear in Kashmiris by perpetuating heinous mass killings.
The report emphasizes the pressing need for the global community to expedite investigations into all the reported massacres in Kashmir.
