Washington, September 23, 2023 (PPI-OT):The US President, Joe Biden, and other leaders had expressed concern to the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, about Canadian claims that New Delhi was involved in the murder of a Sikh leader in Canada when they met at the G20 this month.
According to Kashmir Media Service, several members of the Five Eyes – an intelligence-sharing network that includes the US, the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand – raised the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar with Modi, said a report by Financial Times, citing three people familiar with the discussions at the G20 Summit.
The US is in touch with Indians at a high level after Ottawa said Indian government agents had links to the murder of a Sikh leader in Canada, and Washington is giving India no “special exemption” in the matter, the US National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan, said.
Asked whether the US concern over the incident could disrupt that process, he said America would stand up for its principles, regardless of what country is affected.
“It is a matter of concern for us. It is something we take seriously. It is something we will keep working on, and we will do that regardless of the country,” Sullivan said.
