Islamabad, The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), a cornerstone of Pakistan’s social safety net, has broadened its banking partnerships to enhance the disbursement of funds to its 9.3 million beneficiary households across the nation. This strategic expansion is aimed at improving service accessibility and ensuring greater transparency in fund distribution.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the new agreement, witnessed by BISP Chairperson Dr. Muhammad Amjad Saqib and the programme’s development partners, was signed with six banks during a ceremony. The secretary of BISP highlighted that the programme initially relied on the services of only two banks, but with this latest development, it will not only widen the service network but also introduce significant cost savings and efficiency improvements.
The expansion is expected to save BISP two billion rupees annually, thanks to the competitive environment fostered by the new payment system. With 15 clusters and six banks now part of the BISP’s disbursement framework, beneficiaries of the programme will experience enhanced service delivery, marking a significant step forward in the government’s efforts to support its most vulnerable citizens.
This initiative reflects BISP’s ongoing commitment to leveraging partnerships and technology to streamline operations and provide crucial financial support to millions of households in need.
