Islamabad: Barrister Daniyal Chaudhry, Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting, denied claims by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of widespread killings during the D Chowk operation, asserting that no weapons were used to maintain peace and prevent casualties.
According to Press Information Department, at a press conference in Islamabad, Chaudhry accused PTI of inciting violence to disrupt visits by foreign dignitaries, describing their allegations of killings as “misleading propaganda.” He clarified that the deaths reported were due to panic among individuals, not gunfire, and criticized PTI for politicizing these incidents. Chaudhry highlighted that PTI’s leaders, including Bushra Bibi and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, fled the scene despite calls for restraint.
Chaudhry disclosed that 900 criminals, including 37 Afghan nationals with weapons, were arrested. He stated that PTI protesters, led by figures such as Ali Amin Gandapur and Bushra Bibi, engaged in street firing and destroyed over 100 CCTV cameras, while also setting police vehicles ablaze. The operation resulted in injuries to 52 law enforcement officers, with several critically injured.
Barrister Chaudhry condemned PTI’s actions, emphasizing the government’s restraint amid the aggression and reiterated the commitment to peace and economic stability. He assured accountability for those responsible for the violence on November 26 and 27, and commended the residents of Rawalpindi and Islamabad for rejecting the call for violent protests.
