Dhaka: The interim government of Bangladesh is actively seeking information about the whereabouts of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, whose sudden departure from the country has left many questioning her current location.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Hasina, who left Bangladesh on August 5 following the conclusion of her 15-year tenure prompted by a student-led movement, is believed to have sought refuge initially in India. The Bangladesh foreign affairs adviser, Md Touhid Hossain, has confirmed reaching out to both India and the UAE for details, but has not received any conclusive information regarding Hasina’s precise whereabouts.
There is widespread speculation on social media that Hasina may have moved from India to the UAE, but these claims have yet to be officially confirmed. “We inquired with Delhi and the UAE, but no one provided official confirmation,” stated Hossain. He mentioned posts suggesting she might be in Ajman, UAE, yet these remain unverified.
The matter has drawn increased attention following reports of sightings of Shamim Osman, a known associate of Hasina, in both the UAE and India. This uncertainty comes after Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar revealed that Hasina had sought permission to enter India on very short notice for safety reasons.
