Srinagar, Residents of Hajin town in the Bandipora district of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir staged a silent protest against the local authorities’ failure to provide adequate drinking water.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the demonstration, primarily led by women from Mir Mohalla, underscored the severe difficulties faced by the community in accessing potable water. The protesters voiced their grievances about the ongoing water scarcity that has forced them to depend on remote and often contaminated sources, such as irrigation canals, for their daily water supply.

The lack of safe drinking water, especially during critical periods, has led many to endure long treks to fetch water, raising concerns about the potential spread of waterborne diseases. The residents have reportedly been dealing with dry taps for several days, exacerbating the situation.

The community’s plea during the protest was clear: they urged the authorities to take immediate action to resolve the water crisis that has imposed significant hardships on the residents of Hajin.
