Balochistan to Solarize Over 27,000 Agricultural Tube Wells in Major Green Energy Shift

Quetta: In a significant move toward sustainable agriculture, the Balochistan government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, has announced a plan to convert over 27,000 agricultural tube wells to solar energy. This initiative, unveiled during a signing ceremony between federal and provincial governments, aims to alleviate the economic burden on farmers and reduce the substantial subsidies currently directed to the conventional power sector.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, Chief Minister Bugti highlighted the dual benefits of the project, noting not only the financial relief for the agricultural sector but also the broader environmental impact of reducing dependency on non-renewable energy sources. The transition is expected to save billions in subsidies that could be redirected towards other developmental projects. The Chief Minister expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif for the federal government’s support, emphasizing that the project marks a crucial step in providing permanent relief to landowners in Balochistan facing persistent electricity issues.
