Quetta, The Balochistan Health Department convened a steering committee meeting to discuss enhancements to medical education and healthcare services across the province. Chaired by Secretary Health Balochistan Abdullah Khan, the session gathered prominent medical professionals and educators to finalize plans for improved clinical training and healthcare standards.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, the meeting included key figures such as Vice Chancellor Bolan University of Medical and Health Sciences Prof. Shabir Ahmad Lahri and other heads of medical departments and colleges from across the province. The discussions focused on raising the quality of healthcare in tertiary and specialized teaching hospitals to meet national and international standards.

The committee also outlined the duration of postgraduate rotations at Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Hospital Quetta, setting it between 6 to 12 months. An announcement for admissions through an induction policy is scheduled for May 15, 2024, with the application deadline on June 3, 2024. Further meetings of the admission and steering committees are set for June and July respectively.

Key initiatives include the introduction of a structured practicum/clinical training program that aligns with the practice of basic medical sciences, ensuring an academic environment conducive to excellence in both education and patient care. Additionally, the Health Department is implementing an independent monitoring system to adopt innovative technologies and improve coordination among healthcare stakeholders in Balochistan, aiming for substantial legislative and reform measures in the medical sector.
