Balochistan Governor Calls for Increased Funding and Modernization in Higher Education

Quetta, Governor of Balochistan Sheikh Jafar Khan Mandokhail highlighted the urgent need for enhanced funding and a special federal package to address the financial challenges facing higher education institutions in the province, ensuring quality education, especially for students from remote areas.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, during a meeting with Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman of the Higher Education Commission, Governor Mandokhail emphasized that without timely increases in the budget for higher education by both federal and provincial governments, public universities in Balochistan could face significant difficulties. The discussion, which also included Principal Secretary to the Governor Balochistan Hashim Khan Ghalzai, Vice Chancellor of Beotams University Dr. Khalid Hafeez, and DG of Higher Education Dr. Zahoor Ahmed Bazai, covered various strategic approaches to empower local students and enhance educational standards.

Governor Mandokhail also praised the declaration of an educational emergency by Prime Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif as a wise decision that underscores the government’s commitment to education. He stressed the importance of equipping young people with modern skills in addition to traditional education, advocating for the expansion of technical and IT courses across the province’s colleges to meet future demands.

Furthermore, the Governor called for the development of new income sources to make public sector universities self-sufficient and urged an expansion of research initiatives, particularly in applied sciences, to align more closely with practical and industry-relevant needs.
