Balochistan Governor Calls for Immediate Action to Address Local Gas Shortages

Quetta: Balochistan Governor Jafar Khan Mandukhel has highlighted a critical issue in the province—despite supplying natural gas to other parts of Pakistan for over fifty years, many districts in Balochistan still lack basic gas facilities. The Governor addressed this pressing concern during a meeting with GM Farooq Ahmed Khan of the Sui Southern Gas Company at the Governor House.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, Governor Mandukhel discussed alternative solutions, including the provision of LPG gas to areas currently not connected to the main supply, emphasizing the urgency of resolving the gas deprivation in these districts. He expressed dissatisfaction with the seasonal load shedding of gas, particularly during the summer, and addressed consumer complaints about over-billing and the unusually high speed of newly installed gas meters.

During the briefing, it was also noted that winter brings fatal gas-related accidents in Quetta, prompting the Governor to call for special safety measures and a public awareness campaign to prevent such incidents. Governor Mandukhel stressed that, given Balochistan’s long history as a key gas supplier, the province deserves special concessions and more reliable service from utility providers.
