Balochistan Chief Minister Addresses Climate Change Impact Despite Limited Role in Drivers

Quetta: Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, in a panel discussion, highlighted that although Balochistan has not significantly contributed to the drivers of climate change, the province faces severe effects from environmental shifts. The panel included notable figures such as the Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Climate Change, Rumina Khursheed Alam, and other key provincial officials, focusing on the regional challenges posed by climate change.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, Chief Minister Bugti emphasized that addressing climate change is a priority for the provincial government. He acknowledged the substantial challenges posed by climate change and committed to collaborating with both local and international stakeholders to mitigate its impacts. The discussion also included inputs from Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri, Provincial Minister for Education Raheela Hameed Khan Durrani, and Secretary Forest Department Dostin Khan Jamaldini, who discussed strategies for environmental resilience.

The conference concluded with presentations from students who offered environment-friendly recommendations to the Chief Minister, underscoring the proactive engagement of youth in the region’s climate strategy. Uzma Yaqoob, Head of FDI Pakistan, presented a souvenir at the event’s closure, symbolizing the collaborative efforts to tackle environmental issues.
