Balochistan Advisor Stresses Right to Peaceful Protest Amid Gwadar Unrest

Quetta: Mir Ali Hasan Zahri, the Spokesman for the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari in Balochistan and Advisor for Industry and Crafts, has issued a statement on the recent unrest in Gwadar, emphasizing the right to peaceful protest but condemning property damage and challenges to government authority. He highlighted the strategic importance of Gwadar Port to Pakistan’s economy and stressed that political stability is crucial for maximizing its potential.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, Zahri’s statement comes in response to ongoing reconciliation efforts in Gwadar, which have been marred by protests and blockades affecting commercial activities and economic stability. Gwadar Port, known for its modern facilities and strategic location on a major maritime trade route, is vital for Pakistan’s trade with the Middle East, Central Asia, and Europe. However, the advisor noted that political insurgency and unrest have severely hindered the port’s utilization and discouraged investors.

The provincial advisor further mentioned that despite the challenges posed by political unrest and the actions of extremists who oppose the region’s development, efforts to maintain peace and prosperity in Gwadar continue unabated by local stakeholders and security agencies. These efforts are crucial for ensuring that the region can achieve its full economic potential without the disruptions caused by unrest.
