At the beginning of the festival, 300 bike riders besides other tourists from Pakistan were welcomed at the Kohala Bridge. After that, the flag hoisting ceremony was held at Hans Chowki to express solidarity with the Pakistan Army and pay tributes to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the defense of the homeland as the Defence Day falls in the month of September. Several sports competitions were also held today.

Hikers will go to Nanga Pir while hiking from Bees Bagla on Saturday, while kabaddi and local sports competitions will be held at Sari Top in which teams from Muzaffarabad, Bagh and Jhelum will participate. On September 25, there will be a speech competition between local schools on the defense of the country at Bees Bagla.

The main purpose of the festival is to draw people’s attention to the natural beauty of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The festival will continue till September 25, while the second phase of the festival, the Agri AJK Festival, will continue till September 27.

Nisar Ahmed Shanique, chief organizer of the festival, while talking to the media, said the people of AJK often enjoy events like Nanga Pir Festival while their brothers in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir are not even allowed to go to the parks. He appealed to the international community, particularly the United Nations, to increase pressure on India to allow the Kashmiris living on both sides of the Line of Control to participate in festivals and other activities like the Nanga Pir festival without any hindrance
