Back-to-Back Earthquakes Strike Baramulla District Without Major Damage


Srinagar: Early Tuesday morning, Baramulla district in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir experienced two consecutive earthquakes, with no significant loss of life or property reported directly from the tremors.



According to Kashmir Media Service, the Center for Seismology recorded the primary earthquake’s magnitude at 4.9 on the Richter Scale, identifying the epicenter within Baramulla district. The quake occurred at 6:45 am IST, with coordinates listed at latitude 34.17 N and longitude 74.16 E, at a shallow depth of 5 km.



While the earthquakes themselves did not result in substantial damage or fatalities, secondary incidents related to the quake were noted. In the nearby Odina area of Bandipora district, a young woman tragically lost her life due to electrocution from a fallen live wire during the quake. Additionally, a man sustained injuries after jumping from a building in Baramulla during the tremors; he was transported to a local hospital and is currently in stable condition.
