Azerbaijan Reaffirms Support for Pakistan’s Stance on Kashmir

New Delhi, The outgoing Azerbaijani Ambassador to India, Ashraf Shikaliyev, has reiterated Azerbaijan’s support for Pakistan’s position on the Kashmir issue. In a recent interview, Ambassador Shikaliyev emphasized Azerbaijan’s longstanding and consistent stance on the matter.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Ambassador Shikaliyev highlighted Azerbaijan’s enduring relationship with Pakistan, a bond that has often been a point of contention for India. “Azerbaijan’s position on Kashmir did not change in the last 30 years. It stays the same. India and Pakistan should solve this issue peacefully with due respect to norms and principles of international law and UN Security Council resolutions,” Shikhaliyev stated. His tenure as Azerbaijan’s Ambassador in India concluded in November.

Shikaliyev also urged the Indian government to reconsider its policies regarding arms sales and support to Armenia. He expressed concern that these actions might fuel revanchist forces in Armenia, potentially destabilizing the delicate peace in the region. The ambassador’s comments reflect Azerbaijan’s broader foreign policy and its commitment to promoting peaceful resolutions in conflict areas.

The ambassador’s statement underscores the complex dynamics of South Asian geopolitics, where regional alliances and international law often intersect with longstanding territorial disputes.
