Azamgarh: Wave of fear due to arrest of two Muslim women on charges of cow slaughter

Azamgarh, March 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):There is an atmosphere of commotion due to the arrest of five people, including two Muslim women, in village Qatran of Menhnagar Tehsil of Azamgarh district on the night of March 25. Two young girls, residents of Qatran village, have been arrested by the local police on the charge of cow slaughter. Both women are said to be 17 and 18 years old respectively.

The police have recovered fresh meat and some goods from the accused. Since this incident, there is a wave of fear in the whole village and some villagers’ have reportedly fled the village. A person on condition of anonymity said, “We were engaged in Taraweeh (Ramzan’s prayer) after Isha prayer when a team of 15 policemen raided and arrested the people present on the spot. The police also arrested the women. The issue is very sensitive as it involves arrest of young Muslim women.
