Muzaffarabad: A key meeting led by Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq of the Azad Government of the State of Jammu and Kashmir has resulted in the decision to establish a new secretariat for the Transport Authority to bolster traffic accident prevention measures in Azad Kashmir. The Prime Minister set a stringent 72-hour deadline for full operational status of the Transport Authority and related bodies, and announced legal actions against those negligent in vehicle fitness certification.
According to Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the meeting was attended by top officials including Colonel (Retd.) Waqar Ahmed Noor, Minister for Local Government Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, and Inspector General of Police Rana Abdul Jabbar Khan. It focused on intensifying the enforcement of traffic laws and vehicle fitness regulations to safeguard lives. The Prime Minister emphasized the urgent need for comprehensive policies and possibly new legislation aimed at reducing traffic-related incidents, ensuring thorough vehicle inspections, and strict adherence to traffic regulations.
The assembly underscored a commitment to accountability, mandating that any official found guilty of issuing permits or fitness certificates irresponsibly would face legal proceedings. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance road safety and reduce the frequency and severity of traffic accidents in the region.
