Azad Jammu and Kashmir, President and Chancellor of Azad Jammu and Kashmir University, Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry, inaugurated significant educational projects for Poonch University, valued at over seven billion rupees. These initiatives mark a significant step in the region’s educational development.
According to Press Information Department, the inauguration and foundation-laying ceremony included the “Mega Project Phase One” academic block at Jamia Poonch in Rawalkot, worth two billion and seventy crore rupees. Additionally, the foundation stone for Mega Project Phase 2 was laid. President Chaudhry expressed his gratitude for the resolution of longstanding issues at Jamia Poonch and acknowledged the substantial investment by the Government of Pakistan and the Higher Education Commission in the region’s educational sector.
President Chaudhry emphasized the strategic importance of these educational projects, noting their potential to transform Rawalkot and the broader region of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted the sacrifices of Poonch in the freedom struggle, suggesting that the rapid completion of these university projects could soon place the University of Poonch among the best institutions.
The President also announced the imminent commencement of the tendering process for Jamia Poonch’s Chhota Gullah Campus, with a budget of Rs.3.5 billion. He reflected on the earlier inauguration of the King Abdullah Campus of Azad Jammu and Kashmir University, funded by the Saudi Fund, and the academic block at Kotli University.
The ceremony was attended by Vice Chancellor of Poonch University Dr. Zakaria Zakir, Chairman Higher Education Commission of Pakistan Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, and other dignitaries. The President assured students that despite challenges, they should continue their educational pursuits, expressing confidence in their potential.
This inauguration represents a significant investment in education in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, with a focus on enhancing the standard of living for its citizens and positioning its educational institutions on an international platform.
