Brussels, February 16, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Chairman of Kashmir Council Europe (KCEU), Ali Raza Syed, has praised the “Martin Ennals Foundation”, an important human rights organization based in Switzerland’s capital Brussels, for announcing its annual award for Khurram Parvez, a renowned Kashmiri human rights activist. Ali Raza Syed in a statement in Brussels before leaving for Geneva, where he will attend the awarding ceremony for Khurram Parvez, said by offering “Martin Ennals Award” the foundation has recognized the human rights of oppressed people of Kashmir.
Khurram Parvez, who has played an important role in highlighting at the international level the human rights violations being perpetrated by Indian troops in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, has been in jail for more than a year on baseless charges. As Khurram Parvez is imprisoned, it is not yet known who will receive the award on his behalf.
The Martin Ennals Foundation is named after Martin Ennals, a prominent British human rights defender and former Secretary General of Amnesty International. Apart from Khurram Parvaiz, the organization has also announced the award to Delphine Djiraibe (Chad), and Feliciano Reyna (Venezuela). According to the foundation, these human rights activists have continuously struggled for thirty years to highlight human rights and bring justice to the victims of rights violations, despite the threats to their lives and other challenges.
Ali Raza Syed paid rich tribute to the Martin Ennals Foundation whose management has chosen a very suitable and right Kashmiri personality for this award. He said that the foundation has recognized the rights of Kashmiris by announcing the award for Khurram Parvez and it is also proof that Europe is aware of human rights violations in IIOJK. He urged the international community to put pressure on India to release Khurram Parvez and other Kashmiri human rights activists, journalists and political leaders and activists.
