Islamabad: Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari met with senior officials from Oracle Corporation to discuss potential collaborations aimed at digitizing and automating Pakistan’s power sector. The meeting, which underscored the urgent need to modernize the energy sector through digital technologies, was led by Oracle’s Vice President of Industry Strategy, Mike Ballard.
The discussions focused on leveraging digital tools to enhance operational efficiency, boost transparency, and improve service delivery to consumers. Minister Leghari stressed the importance of embracing the rapid growth of information technology. He noted that partnerships with global tech firms like Oracle could pave the way for a more efficient, transparent, and consumer-friendly power system in Pakistan.
Highlighting the broader goals of digitization, the Minister stated that the initiative aims not just to secure returns on investment, but also to promote transparency, improve accountability, and ensure long-term performance within the sector.
Oracle’s delegation expressed support for the Pakistani government’s vision and shared advanced solutions, including smart metering and data analytics. These technologies are designed to enhance system performance while delivering quality services to consumers.
Mike Ballard of Oracle emphasized the company’s successful track record in mitigating non-technical losses in countries such as the United Kingdom, Turkey, and Japan. He expressed confidence that Pakistan could similarly benefit from Oracle’s expertise in this domain.
