Authorities Restrict Return of Displaced Residents Near Line of Control

Srinagar: In a move affecting thousands, authorities in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir have barred displaced residents from returning to their homes in villages near the Line of Control. The decision has been made due to the ongoing threat posed by cross-border shelling.

Kashmir Media Service reports that over 125,000 residents from the districts of Baramulla, Bandipora, and Kupwara have already evacuated to safer areas. These residents fled their homes as the risk of cross-shelling in their villages reached critical levels.

An official advisory issued by the police has reinforced the directive, stating, “Do not return to frontline villages. Lives are at risk…”

The restrictions come as a precautionary measure to protect civilians from potential harm. However, the directive has left many displaced families in a state of uncertainty, as they face prolonged separation from their homes and livelihoods.

Local authorities are monitoring the situation closely, but there has been no indication of when it might be deemed safe for residents to return. The advisory underscores the ongoing volatility in the region and the challenges faced by those living in proximity to the Line of Control.
