Authorities’ claims on peace, normalcy in held Kashmir belies ground realities’

Srinagar, September 16, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Additional General Secretary, Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, has said that the ground reality in occupied Jammu and Kashmir belies Indian authorities’ claims on peace and normalcy.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Sheikh Mustafa Kamal in a statement issued in Srinagar, expressing concern over the deteriorating situation in the occupied territory, said the recent spate of killings has called India’s IIOJK policy into question.

He said, we were told that normalcy will become ‘the new norm’ in Kashmir. “Do killings of minorities qualify as the new normal? Is it normal that journalists and human rights activists continue to remain behind bars? It was claimed that the priorities in the valley have changed towards the right direction, but the prevailing situation vis-a-vis peace and stability and economy is at odds with what is being claimed by the ruling dispensations in New Delhi and Srinagar,” he said.

Sheikh Mustafa Kamal said it’s high time for the ruling dispensation in New Delhi to shun ostrich-like attitudes and make course corrections in its Kashmir policy.
